Versions of Sibelius prior to Sibelius 6.0.3 are not officially supported on Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard. Sibelius 6 users must update to Sibelius 6.0.3 or later. Users of Sibelius 5 and earlier, and of Sibelius First and Sibelius Student, should note that these versions of Sibelius are not officially supported on Mac OS X 10.6. Our technical support staff will not be able to provide detailed help with running older versions of Sibelius on Mac OS X 10.6. The truth is, FireWire—and in particular the FW400 variety—has been slowing disappearing for the last few years. Apple eliminated FireWire from iPods several years ago, since it allowed slimming down of iPods and made the nano and shuffle possible. Even external hard drives rarely have a FW400 port; FW800 and/or eSATA are the ports that are usually offered if there is anything other than USB 2. But listen, folks: the MacBook is not a professionally-oriented computer. It is marketed for the general consumer, and I will argue that there isn't a justifiable percentage of general consumers that are using FireWire to justify adding the cost and space to the MacBook.

Some of you have commented that getting Leopard qualified far earlier than now would seem like a "no-brainer," or that Digidesign is often far too late in coming on line in support of newer OS versions. Some have hypothesized that we will charge for an upgrade just to offer you Leopard support. Some people have even said that it's possible that Apple may be causing problems for Pro Tools on purpose.
